Age Level Programs

Founded in 1888, WMU is a missions organization that has educated and involved generations upon generations in Christian missions. Our purpose—to challenge Christian believers to understand and be radically involved in the mission of God—is accomplished through our age-level missions organizations, hands-on missions opportunities, and additional resources produced by WMU.

The main purpose of WMU is to educate and involve preschoolers, children, students, and adults in the cause of Christian missions. WMU supports the following organizations through age-appropriate magazines and/or products:

Dr. Lydia Moyer, Director
It is incredible that COVID-19 – and all that comes with it – is still with us, most notably in a new variant form. Even so, the Lord has opened more opportunities in technology for Christians to continue to spread the gospel! More pastors livestream their sermons; more counselors offer virtual sessions, more teachers offer virtual lessons – including Bible Study; State WMU has met virtually, and SBA WMU has offered virtual training for our churches as well. WMU’s continued theme, “Relentless,” is perfect for the time we are in. A relentless person will crave the end result more intensely than the work to get there. Christ is our perfect example of relentlessness. Christ first relentlessly pursued us, and we, as Christ's followers, are to be like Him in the mission field: in relentless pursuit of our Lord and of the ones He loves. We are to pursue Him, and His will, in everything we do. In this pursuit, we are to know Him and to seek to live and love like Him. “But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.” Hebrews 10:39
The Saluda Baptist Association WMU Mission states that we will “assist all churches in their mission’s education and mission support activities.” We will strive to meet the goal of that statement through mission support, training events, inspirational events, and consulting personally with our churches and leaders. The WMU of SBA offers a variety of mission opportunities for church-wide involvement, and it is my continued hope that all churches within our SBA will respond and join in what the Lord is doing in our Association, for “we are laborers together with God.” (1 Corinthians 3:9 KJV)
I am blessed and amazed as I watch the Lord work among and through WMU in our association – especially in this difficult season. The gospel of Jesus will continue to spread as we are relentless in our pursuit to help others know and grow in Christ.

Mellie Jones, Assistant Director
I am a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where I am a mentor for myMISSION and an active member of Women on Mission. I am also a Sunday School teacher in an adult class. I volunteer as a Reading Buddy at Flat Rock Elementary School and also volunteer for the Flat Rock Cemetery along with being a member of The Novel Bunch Book Club and The First Friday Supper Club. My husband, Sam, and I have two children, Sally and Dylan, and four grandchildren, Sydney, Axel, Lexi, and Ella. I enjoy reading, cooking (and eating!), and traveling when I have the chance. My husband and I are caretakers for his brother, a stroke victim. Thank you for all you do to make my job easier.

Awone Rector, Administrative Assistant
The new theme for this year for our WMU at SBA is “Faithfulness”. When Lydia announced this, it was a God thing for me. The word for this year that God had laid on my heart for 2022 was “Faithful.” It is all about being faithful to all that God has and will do in our lives when we totally submit to him. My slogan most of the time is “let go and let God.” That is easy to say and sometimes so much more challenging to do. I pray that as WMU is practicing “Faithfulness” for the new year of 2022-2023, we will see how God is continuing to carry out His promises to and for us.
