When you are sick and tired all the time you don’t feel like doing anything and that includes helping others and accomplishing God’s purpose He has for your life. He came so we could have life and have it more abundantly but a lot of us are not able to live that abundant life because of illness and disease. The most amazing thing is that a lot of it can be prevented or at least prolonged by making better health choices. This is the encouragement and knowledge to make those choices.
What is health ministry?
Health ministry is getting out into the community, educating the public on health-related issues, encouraging health promotion so that people can make informed choices, showing the need for Jehovah-Rapha, and opening doors to share the Gospel.
Who to contact for the health ministry?
Christina Hornbeck: I have been a nurse for 28 years, working in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit for the last 17 years. My passion is helping and educating others in the community on health-related topics. My heart has been burdened to see doors open to share the Gospel with those in need of our Healer. I have had the opportunity to use my nursing knowledge in several organizations in the community such as the Free Clinic, health fairs, teaching health related classes at churches, and volunteering at community outreach events. I am really looking forward to working with others in reaching out to the community and promoting health related activities.
What does this look like?
I am planning on offering classes on a variety of health-related topics throughout the year. I can do this at the SBA office or at your church. I always incorporate scripture and God into all of my classes so this is a great opportunity to bring a friend to gain information on health and to plant seeds of faith into their lives.

![]() Laborers Together
In September we observe Labor Day, a holiday established to “honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States.” (Wikipedia) The labor movement brought about many social reforms, such as safer working conditions, better wages, paid vacations, and child labor laws. The worldly view of labor often projects the daily pressure of getting up (dreading Mondays) and serving an employer—facing the “daily grind” and monotony. Many hate their job or try to get the most from the least amount of effort. This view is the antithesis of what scripture teaches us. “For we are labourers together with God;” (1Cor 3:9a,KJV) We are under His employment, workers in His workforce. He has created us with different talents, each of us performing a necessary task. Our approaches or styles may be unique to us but should always agree with the gospel. God blesses us with the ability to work so that we can honor Him. No matter how menial or insignificant we think our job is, we should love God through our work, acknowledging that we are doing what God wants done; ergo, we complete the task because we love Him. How we work—our attitude, work ethic, interactions with co-workers and boss- reflects who we follow and will certainly be noticed by those around us. What a wonderful opportunity we have to show the love of God! “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” (Col 3:23-24, NKJV) May your work benefit you, bless others, and always honor God. Prayer focus:
~Additional PRAYER PROMPTS~ Pray for missionaries around the globe, especially those in healthcare, who are laboring to provide light and life through physical and spiritual healing to a dark and lost world. Pray for the BNF Summit this October, for the planning and for the speakers. Prayerfully consider attending the Summit. (Early bird registration ends September 26).
